Fajardo

On the water

Fajardo has more than five marinas. Puerto del Rey, widely described as the Caribbean's largest marina, lists more than 900 wet slips for vessels from 32 to 200 feet. For owners who keep a boat, a home here can mean minutes to the slip and a short run to Culebra, Vieques, and the cays offshore.

Ferries to Culebra and Vieques now leave from the Ceiba terminal at the former Roosevelt Roads base, just south of Fajardo.

Nature

Las Cabezas de San Juan is a 316 acre nature reserve run by the Puerto Rico Conservation Trust, with an 1880s lighthouse listed on the National Register. It contains Laguna Grande, one of the island's three bioluminescent bays, visited by kayak or boat. Seven Seas is Fajardo's most popular beach for calm water.

Resort

El Conquistador Resort, on the cliffs above the sea, operates its own ferry to Palomino Island. Las Casitas Village is part of the resort.
